Seamlessly blending two narratives at once, Boozehound! chronicles the progressive 30-year drinking career of Eric Houghton, with his wildly tumultuous seven-day rehab at The Carrier Clinic in New Jersey, where he begins to learn how to deal with an obsession that eventually engulfed every aspect of his life.
From his earliest days growing up at the Jersey shore community of Harvey Cedars, Houghton traces his roots in alcohol. We see how his musical talents and the relative isolation of living on a barrier island helped develop the traits common in a potential alcoholic. Then, as happens so often, we see his life and talents grow, but always with a drink near at hand. Sensing danger, yet ignoring the warning signs over and over, Houghton eventually turns to lies and deception as his disease worsens.
Beginning with the white-knuckle final weekend of drinking and drugging, accidents and trips to the ER, Boozehound! finds Houghton at his bottom: alone, afraid and suffering from withdrawal symptoms. When he comes to inside the 100-year-old institution in Central Jersey, feeling more dead than alive, we immediately meet his two roommates, Ebby, a fellow alcoholic with a failing marriage and three DWIs, and Mike Cass, a larger-than –life Xanax abuser with a zaniness and flair for life that immediately buoys Houghton’s flagging psyche. Together the three of them, along with many other wild characters they meet along the way, try to accept their addictions, get the vital help they need, and hopefully return to their battered families.
This is Houghton’s story.

The Reviews are pouring in for Boozehound! Breaking a 30-Year Obsession!!!
I thought the book was raw, In feeling the emotions of what the writer and wife must have been going through. Addiction really hits all aspects of the family~ Its a great read for anyone that feels like " How did I miss that"? I felt so many emotions while reading it. Happiness. Sadness. and some Belly laughter~ but more so that you are alway one drink, pill and choice away from starting all over again~understanding One Day at a time!
I can relate to the author having grown up on a small barrier reef Island myself. Addiction and boozing is everywhere...One big party.
As much as I appreciate finally getting clean, I think its important to give kudos to his wife, Eric was very lucky, most women are not as patient.
Keep up in the program and focus on your recovery....One Day at a time!
